Liam it is...

After a few weeks of thinking hard, polling friend and family, Scarlett helped us decide on her brother's new name.
Julia asked her about her brother this morning and she said Liam. So Liam it is.
Liam Xaio (shaoowww) Bao (baaooww) Stebbins, it nice ring to it I think.
I am hoping that we'll get permission from CCAI to post his photo in the next week or so.

ASL Class

Joanne and I had our first ASL class last night at PCC. It was great. We learned a lot of new signs and we even knew a few because of Signing Time DVDs, so that was great.
One thing that was interesting was our teacher talked about the Deaf community and how we should never say 'hearing impaired' because deaf people do not see it as a disability, they see themselves as minority community and not disabled in anyway. In fact she says they remark on 'close captioning for the hearing impaired' all the time asking, 'who is impaired?'.
So the correct way to talk about our new baby is to say he is hard of hearing.
Our teacher talked about her experience in the school system where she works and the number of families that do not sign with thier kids. She said it was really heart-breaking because the kids basically are not interacted with much at home. She told us that they were all excited to come back to school yesterday so they could communicate with their teachers and friends. It made me really sad to hear that. It's not going to be that way in our house. We are learning sign language and we'll learn whatever else we need to make sure that our kids are successful.
Our teacher recommended these websites if your interested:
www.lifeprint.com
www.asl.ms

Also she recommended the Barron Sign Language Dictonary. I saw them on Amazon, but I'm going to try to pick on up locally so I can have it for class next week.
Also an update on the baby name. We are leaning towards Liam or Alex as finalist. Keep voting. It is helping.
